Description
This is an “unofficial” member of the Dead Feminists broadsides series, an original letterpress print created to commemorate our book winning a 2018 Pacific Northwest Book Award. Verb Ally reprints the ten action words that comprise the ten chapters of our book, Dead Feminists: Historic Heroines in Living Color. These ten action words unite the 27 women featured in the book, describe our collaborative process as artists, and light the path forward as we navigate these times of political challenges and social strife.
Half of the words were hand-lettered by Chandler, while the other half were handset from wood and metal type by Jessica. Each also created half of the decorative borders, either from handset metal ornaments (Jessica) or hand-drawn illustrations (Chandler). Together they represent our collaborative process by blending and blurring different design and printing techniques.
To help continue our mission of helping women and girls take action in their own communities, we are donating half of the proceeds of this print to the Dead Feminists Fund.
The piece was printed by hand on antique Vandercook presses, on archival, 100% cotton paper, and is signed and numbered by both artists.
