Description
When life hands you lemons…make lemonade!
This is a hand-bound journal with a hand-pulled, letterpress cover (in fact, everything was done by hand, the hard way!). This piece is a collaboration between Chandler O’Leary of Anagram Press and Jessica Spring of Springtide Press, made from the “lemons” presented by the pitfalls of printing by hand. One hundred percent of the proceeds of this journal will be donated to the Dead Feminists Fund, which supports nonprofits that help women and girls create change in their own communities.
When we were printing our nineteenth Dead Feminist broadside, “Focal Point,” featuring a quote by photographer Imogen Cunningham, we had a few prints that ended up with imperfect ink or slightly wonky registration. We couldn’t include those prints in the edition of broadsides, but since we still liked the results, we decided to crop the prints down to our favorite parts, and make “lemonade!”
This blank journal features gold text (“The Seeing Eye”) and a portion of Imogen Cunningham’s camera, printed in shimmery metallic ink on deep black paper. This pocket-sized book is ideal for jotting down artful notes and sketches—or for jotting down everything your seeing eye sees. Turn heads while you take notes, or give a thoughtful, beautiful gift to the photographer in your life.
