Description
“Read books, practice sword.”
— Qiu Jin
This is an “unofficial” member of the Dead Feminists broadsides series, a small letterpress keepsake done in the style and spirit of the series. We created this piece in honor of the revolutionary spirit of Chinese scholar, poet, and political activist Qiu Jin (1875-1907). The “quote” is an English translation of Qiu Jin’s carved name chop, the seal that accompanied her poems and letters.
This mini-broadside was printed from metal type handset by Jessica, and a linocut illustration hand-carved by Chandler.
To help continue our mission of helping women and girls take action in their own communities, we are donating a portion of the proceeds of this print to the Dead Feminists Fund.
The piece was printed by hand on an antique Chandler & Price platen press, on archival, acid-free paper. The print is unsigned and unnumbered.
Paper size: 4 x 4 inches
Edition size: approximately 300 prints (not numbered)
